Red Yeast Rice
Besides the yeast balls, this is the only other ingredient used that makes the wine the reddish orange color. You can get this from most Chinese medicine halls.
For each Kg of rice, use ~10 gram of red yeast rice, or roughly scooped a handful.
Red Yeast Rice is frequently used in Chinese cooking or in preparations of various food that is red in color. 'Charsiew' is among the most notable one.
Also, red yeast rice contains natural occurring Statin, the key ingredient in the cholesterol lowering drugs in the market. So, you can find Red Yeast Rice Extracts in capsule form sold in some Chinese medicine halls as well.
Drink more or eat more of the rice residue (called lees - will show those later).
